Why age?

If you apply data minimization, the principle is that you do not process more personal data than you really need to achieve your purpose. Do you only need the age? Then do not ask for the date of birth.

For example, you only need the age where a particular age limit is attached to aspects of your service. For instance:

What do you get if you request the age?

You get the age in years on the day of the query. For example: 34.

Derivation rules for age

Read in the derivation rules for age exactly how the age is derived. Very occasionally the age cannot be determined because the date of birth of the person requested is unknown or partly unknown — for example because only a year of birth has been registered. Where only the year and the month of a date of birth are known, the age is still determined, unless the day of the query falls within the month of birth. For minors and young adults it practically never happens that the age cannot be determined.
